Just a quick complaint. So, Canada, do you know what street signs are? No, I don’t mean street names, you seem to have those figured out. I mean signposts. As in, when you come to a junction, the information on the side of the road which tells you where the roads lead. B.C. especially was lacking in those signs. Alberta’s been better, especially after Calgary, but coming from Europe, there are still a lot of signs which tell me nothing about where they go. Luckily, the grid system and mt compass mean that it’s pretty easy to keep heading East most of the time.

Additionally, there are those signs which tell you how far away places are. And no, they shouldn’t just always be put up 1km before the place - Alberta. Although, at least Alberta, unlike B.C., did have some distance signs. For a cyclist without a bike computer or constant GPS, these are invaluable for at least a rough indication of where I am.

Finally, Canada seems to be missing bragging signs. Neither of the passes on the Icefields Parkway had signs indicating the pass or its height. How is anyone supposed to know I was really there? The photos could have been taken on any old hill. Honestly!

Update: Alberta's been pretty good with signs since Calgary. Towns have been announced far in advance, and most paved roads have signs.
